5-axis CNC technology refers to the capability of a CNC machine to simultaneously move a cutting tool or workpiece along five distinct axes. This represents a significant advancement over traditional 3-axis machining, unlocking unprecedented geometric freedom for manufacturing highly complex components. The five axes typically include the three linear axes—X (left-right), Y (front-back), and Z (up-down)—plus two rotational axes, usually designated as A (rotating around X) and B (rotating around Y), or B and C (rotating around Z). The primary configurations are a trunnion table, where the workpiece tilts and rotates, and a swiveling spindle head, where the tool itself changes its orientation.
