While sharing foundational principles with milling programming, it deals with a distinct set of codes and a fundamentally different machining dynamic, where the workpiece rotates and the cutting tool moves in radial (X) and axial (Z) axes. The programming process, often performed with CAM software tailored for turning, involves defining the finished part geometry relative to the spindle centerline and then creating a sequence of operations to efficiently remove material from a cylindrical blank.
